BASKETBALL COACHES SURVEY ON RULE CHANGES:

I. Pre-Season inter-school scrimmage (s).
Let teams have one or two scrimmage practice games against other teams with certified officials to help the players, coaches, and officials prepare for their first game. Score should not be kept.
Rationale:
1. This will allow coaches, especially those new to their program the opportunity to evaluate areas that the team needs to work on before the first game.
2. Kansas schools that are located next to the border state, in which the school they play has already played several games, would be more prepared to compete if they have a scrimmage game.
3. Smaller numbers are going out for sports. Teams are running into fewer numbers and having a scrimmage would allow them to evaluate their team in a five-on-five game like situation.

II. Pre-Season – Saturday’s Official Clinic.
League could join together and have Certified Officials referee where they could be evaluated by the area supervisor. Teams would play two quarters against other schools; this would also help schools evaluate what needs to be worked on in practice.
Rationale:
Same as rationale #1 above.

III. Change the five-quarter per night for players to six-quarter per night.
Rationale:
1. Most Jr. Varsity games are played prior to the Varsity game. Coaches try to utilize their players where they are most needed. However, many times J.V. players miss out in quality learning situations in games because coaches may need them in varsity action.
2. This would help teams when players get injured and you are running short on numbers.

Coaches
Thanks so much for using MaxPreps this season, and please continue to use throughout the end of your season. This year as President of the KBCA, there were two main goals I wanted to achieve. Number one is to get our membership up, something we always struggle with for various reasons. And try to help all coaches better understand what KBCA does for them. We were at the rules meetings, if you remember, with a survey and membership forms, we will be back next year striving again to help increase our membership. If any of you have ever come to the KBCA reception at Washburn U. Union, the reception we put on for coaches, players, the various awards we select for KBCA each year, the Hall of Fame selections, you would join and always be a member. The emotion, the joy and the sorrow of lost loved ones feels the air each year at the KBCA reception. When I was contacted by MaxPreps as your KBCA -President, I had some reservations at first, but after experiencing what I see, MaxPreps is most certainly one way to help your team and you as coach. Those that have been experiencing the benefits of your teams exposure have replied to me and I have sent to MaxPreps your comments which have been received real well. I have had a few comments from coaches concerned about some team knowing who their weak free throw shooter might be in a close game. I respect and understand those coaches views. I just got done this morning viewing two TVL girls teams playing on Blue Valley -TV. Actual game footage. So if we are worried about stats, don't be, stats do not show how you play the game. The game I viewed this morning showed me offense, defense, pressing, who brought the ball down against a press, etc.

We currently have 8 girls and 4 boys teams on MaxPreps. We are close to having true TVL league stats. If you do not get involved this year, no problem. But, MaxPreps will be there again next year to use from the start. And in most cases, maybe that is the problem. That extra five minutes to ten minutes to put your stats on. And not having MaxPreps in your daily routine from the beginning of the season. Remember I was contacted the second week of January and this has really taken off, it's new and will grow.
MaxPreps will most likely help a TVL young lady from a small rural town land in the KBCA All-Star game this season. Her team has been using the site and she has been noticed. Just so you know, because some of you are KBCA members, our Executive Director currently, and a man who has been at the top of our organization for several years, Mr. Jim Baker is retiring from KBCA this spring. Jim has been and will continue to be a great influence in Kansas Basketball. His coaching accomplishments at Buhler High School and his leadership in Kansas as a KBCA Director have been legendary.

Again, if there are any coaches out there that want to still at this point of the season, place their season to date stats and complete each game through the rest of the season, please reply, I have your username and password from MaxPreps. Season to date entry instructions if you haven't already received them can also be sent.
Sincerely

Randy Walling
