Tribute to Clinton Hill
Howard Clinton Hill was born November 8, 1923, at McPherson, Kansas to Harry and Verbenia (Verbie) Hill. He lived northeast of Galva, Ks.
while growing up and went to grade school at the Grasshopper Country School through eighth grade.
After Clinton graduated from Galva High School in 1941, he attended McPherson College. Clinton took time out from college to serve in the U.S. Navy for two and a half years and then graduated with a BA degree in 1948.
In 1943, Clinton met and married Billie Zinn from McDowell, Missouri.
They had three children, Patrick, Terry, Bradley.
Clinton signed a professional baseball contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1945 and played for three years. In 1948 he began 19 years in the teaching and coaching professions. During these years, he coached two high school championship basketball teams and one high school state cross country championship team.
After completing his MSE at Emporia State College in 1967, he spent 21 years as a school administrator.
Clinton was actively involved in the establishment of the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA). He served 15 years as the Executive Director for the association. In 1984 he was inducted into the KBCA Hall of Fame. In addition to his KBCA activities, Clinton served on the Kansas State High School Activities Association Executive Board. After 40 years in the education profession, he retired in 1988.
